The W Project

About

Launched on the 8th of March 2011, the W Project marked the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, with an exhibition of work by established and emerging female talent across multiple creative disciplines.

A lively programme of events and activities accompanied the exhibition, including film screenings, workshops and a programme of talks featuring the advice and insights of women who have succeeded in their fields.

Describe a bit about yourself and your work?

My name is Vicky Mather and I am a London based filmmaker. My background is in design, photography and animation- a mixture of things.

I just completed an MA scholarship in Directing Animation at the National Film and Television School, UK. My graduation film ‘Stanley Pickle’ premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival in June 2010 where it won the Mclaren Award for New British Animation. Since then it’s been on an epic journey winning 10 more international awards and is continuing to travel.

What was your first job?

My first job was selling waffles and ice cream at Legoland in Windsor, I had to wear an outfit you might see on a Lego man. I come from humble (and frequently humiliating) beginnings.

Who is your role-model?

I couldn’t say there is one person in particular but I admire ambitious women who manage to retain their femininity. Ultimately, if I meet any woman in the creative industry, who has continued to be passionate about what they do and they’ve kept their integrity, I am inspired.

Upcoming projects?

I’m continuing to promote Stanley Pickle for as long as people stay interested in it. We got in to twelve festivals already this year, ten of which take place in March alone! It’s so much work, but so far it’s been totally worth it.

Currently I have an agent and am represented by a production company in London where I am developing a handful of projects of which I am sure you will hear about in the not so distant future!
